We spent the last few weeks discovering our life verses, spiritual gifts and body parts. Now we can squish it into one compact statement.
Your mission statement.
18 years ago God nudged me to run for secretary of the student council in the community college I attended. During the elections we gave speeches in the student center.
I had no clue why God would ask me or what I would say. I spent hours preparing the speech.
Here are some questions I asked myself:
What is in my heart for the people I will serve?
Why do I want to serve the student body?
What do I have to offer?
I hadn’t set out to write a mission statement. But the answers provided a rough draft for my life mission statement.
Today my mission statement looks like this.
Encourage, challenge and invigorate others to unearth God’s gifts and goodness within them, leading them to experience the shame shattering love of God.
What is a mission statement?
A mission statement is the pulse of your life. It answers why you are doing something. When considering a job or volunteer opportunity, your mission statement helps you see if its a good fit. Is this opportunity the best use of your time, gifts and talents?
If you are an entrepreneur it helps you narrow your focus and find your niche.
The key to a mission statement is asking God to show you who you are and what he has planned for you to do. The rest is just crafting words together in a compact sound bite.
Statements to inspire you.

Take your time answering them. Maybe spread this exercise out over a week. Spend time talking with God about them. These answers will help you compile a rough draft mission statement.
